Towards a Sustainable Expo Award

The role of ‘Participant Technical Supervisor’ involved responsibility for interfacing with the organiser Expo 2015, the participant and local design consultants in Milan. This entailed supervision during design, construction, fit-out and dismantling activities in technical coordination with the Expo team and the Irish state agencies. The Pavilion was designed by the Office of Public Works and hosted an exhibition and events over the six months. The building was constructed from structural timber which was partly recycled and partly reused in Italy’s pavilion at the 2016 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Ireland’s participation in Expo 2015 was supported by the Department of Arts Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the Office of Public Works, Bord Bia, Enterprise Ireland and Tourism Ireland.
